Mr. James F. Howington, 83, of Poulan died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on January 25, 2018 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in the Poulan Cemetery. The Rev. Charles McCardle will officiate.
Mr. Howington was born on December 30, 1934 in Clearwater, South Carolina to the late James Cleveland & Annie Louise Porterfield Howington. He lived in Worth County for many years before moving to Texas due his job as a Territorial Salesman for Myers Tire Company. After retiring, Mr. Howington moved back to Worth County in 2006. He served his state and country honorably as a member of the Georgia National Guard. Mr. Howington enjoyed golfing, meeting people, reading and joking with his many friends. He had a number of hobbies he loved but the greatest love of his life was his family. Mr. Howington attended Poulan Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Debbie H. Hyatt (Steve) of Poulan; son, James M. "Mitch" Howington (Rosa Lee) of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren, Charles Brent Balkcom (Patricia), Leigha Marie Balkcom Anthony (Tony Paul) and William Townsend Hyatt (Alaena); great-grandchildren, Alexander Brent Balkcom, Helena Patricia Balkcom, Aaron Brett Anthony, Hanna Dianne Anthony and Maximus Beau Anthony along with a host of extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Howington was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carolyn Carter Howington on January 15, 2014; his daughter, Janice Dianne Anderson on October 17, 2004 and a number of siblings.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 PM at Banks Funeral Home.
